Overview

Residential Mentor – Pay rate: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour. Full-Time, On-site position in Stafford, TX.

Schedule:

Multiple shifts available. Sunday - Wednesday: 3:00pm - 11:00pm;
Wednesday - Saturday: 7:00am - 3:00pm; 3:00pm - 11:00pm; 11:00pm - 7:00am. Join us at OPI Houston as a Mentor in our Transitional Living Program in Stafford, TX, where you ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young adults aged 18-28.

As a Direct Support Mentor, you’ll play a vital role in helping residents build independence and improve mental wellness. You’ll support daily living needs such as personal care, meals, medication, and transportation, while working closely with a multidisciplinary team. Your compassionate presence will empower residents as they pursue their goals.

This active, hands-on role involves participating in experiential therapies like art, music, yoga, fitness, and urban outings such as museum visits and community service. Candidates should be comfortable staying on their feet, engaging with young adults, and navigating a fast-paced, city-based environment. Together with the team, you’ll help create a structured, supportive space for healing and life skill development.

Responsibilities
  • Client Engagement and Support:
    Build meaningful, supportive relationships with clients, maintaining professional boundaries while assisting with their daily needs and activities.
  • Effective Treatment Application:
    Review and apply treatment team strategies daily to drive client progress and ensure effective intervention.
  • Crisis Management Expertise:
    Utilize advanced de-escalation techniques and crisis management training to support clients, ensuring a calm and safe environment.
  • Attachment-Based Care:
    Embrace a caregiver role with empathy and intentionality, fostering attuned relationships and providing constructive feedback to support client growth.
  • Campus Cleanliness and Maintenance:
    Contribute to a clean and welcoming environment by managing campus upkeep, supporting clients with chores, and addressing maintenance issues promptly.
  • Accurate Documentation:
    Maintain thorough and precise documentation of client interactions and staff interventions to ensure consistent and effective care.
  • Professional Standards and Compliance:
    Uphold company values, communicate effectively, adhere to policies, and maintain punctuality while managing time off and avoiding unauthorized overtime.
Qualifications
  • Age: 21 years or older
  • Education:

    High school diploma or equivalent; GED required. An associate or bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, criminal justice, or related field is preferred.
  • Skills:

    Quick decision-making skills and a growth mindset with a focus on Embarks core values.
  • Experience:

    Minimum 1 year of experience working with adolescent populations is preferred.
  • Certifications:

    CPR and First Aid certification preferred; training provided.
  • Background Checks:
    Must pass pre-employment drug screen and federal and state background checks in accordance with Texas state laws.
  • Physical Intervention:
    Willing and able to participate in physical interventions (e.g., therapeutic holds) when necessary, following all safety protocols and trauma-informed practices.
  • Physical Readiness:
    Comfortable with physically active work, including standing, walking, and engaging in interventions as part of a team-based safety approach.
