Job DescriptionAre you ready to join a talented team and shape the future of Transport Planning?
We are seeking to recruit a Technical Director to join our Modelling and Analytics (MAP) team in the South East to help win and deliver projects as well as drive innovation. This is a part-time permanent role, based in either St Albans or Aldgate, though hybrid working is assumed, as is working with MAP teams nationally.
We are looking for an individual who can win and deliver exciting projects and find optimal solutions to meet client and commercial needs.
An ideal candidate will come from an analytical background, such as mathematics, economics or engineering and will have extensive experience in transport modelling and simulation of transportation systems, including conventional and emerging transportation systems, demand modelling, freight modelling, agent-based modelling, activity-based demand modelling, programming and visualising data.
What can we offer?
We undertake transport modelling spanning national, regional, local as well as detailed micro-simulation. Our team undertakes research, develop tools and find solutions. We use technology, Big Data (e.g. Mobile Phone and GPS data) and apply statistical modelling, programming, operational research, artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to develop transport modelling tools as well as visualising transport data. We work collaboratively with colleagues across AECOM’s many disciplines, including planners, designers, engineers, regeneration and environmental specialists.
Our South East Transport Planning team comprises 75 staff in four offices, of which 35 are MAP staff. Our transport planning specialties include:
Policy and Strategy Development;
Network Planning;
Transport Modelling and Appraisal;
Data Analytics;
Demand Management;
Smart Mobility;
Microsimulation Modelling;
Freight Management;
Monitoring and Evaluation; and Advisory.
Our current UK public sector clients include the Department of Transport, Transport for London, National Highways as well as a host of local authorities and London boroughs within England. We operate numerous frameworks from the team so have a diverse range of projects to choose from. We have proactively managed some of the UK’s most high-profile transport planning and infrastructure projects which are at the forefront of the transport planning industry.
These span innovative use and application of mobile phone data through to close partnership working and research with universities and academia.

- Multiple local authority modelling frameworks (model development and application)
- National Highways policy modelling
- TfL cycle route choice research
- TfL’s MoTiON activity-based model
- Multiple model development and applications as part of TfL Operation and Strategodelling contracts
