Johnson Hatt is searching for an experienced Gravel Pit Superintendent to oversee the daily operations of a gravel pit in Utah County. The Gravel Pit Superintendent ensures safe, efficient, and compliant production of aggregate materials while supervising crews, managing equipment, and coordinating with management and customers. The superintendent is responsible for production planning, personnel scheduling, inventory control, regulatory compliance, and site maintenance, and employee relations.
Responsibilities- Oversee all pit operations; mining, crushing, screening, stockpiling, and loadout.
- Develop and execute production plans to meet volume and quality targets.
- Monitor material flow and adjust operations to maximize efficiency.
- Coordinate equipment usage, maintenance schedules, and repairs.
- Enforce MSHA regulations and company safety policies and conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Supervise pit crews, equipment operators, and laborers and train employees on equipment operation and best practices.
- Schedule staff and manage labor resources based on production needs.
- Track production quantities, material quality, and inventory levels.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Plan and oversee pit development, stripping, and long-term mine sequencing.
- 5+ years of experience in sand and gravel pit operations or aggregate production.
- Supervisory or management experience in mining or heavy construction.
- Strong knowledge of MSHA regulations and safe mining practices.
- Ability to operate and understand heavy equipment (loaders, excavators, crushers).
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in outdoor, physically demanding environments.
- Experience in grading, earthwork, or site development.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Creativity and ability to think outside the box.
Pay: DOE $95K+, depending on experience, moving cost allowance available.
