Job Description:
The Assistant Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, overseeing, and enforcingsafetycompliance for our transit transportation program. They will strategically oversee all areas ofsafetyand compliance with respect to DOT/OSHA/State-OSHA regulations and prepare our workforce for our client’s needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe and secure public transportation system for all customers utilizing the service
- Supervise and direct the daily operational activities of Drivers, Window Dispatchers andSafety
Driver Support; make spontaneous decisions; communicate via two-way radio, telephone, fax and writing - Ensuresafetyperformance metric and goals are met
- Ensuresafety/road supervision provides adequate support to the operators and files all paperwork in a timely manner
- Support the locationsafetyinitiatives and help foster the building of our safetyculture
- Determine driver fit-for-duty and uniform compliance
- Review monthly KPI results (vehicle accident and work-related injury performance) determining why variances occur and identify preventative measures in response to each variance
- Develop and implementsafetycommunication and training programs
- Attend and present at monthlysafetymeetings, start-up meetings and monthlysafetycommittee meetings
- Finalize investigations of Injuries and Accidents and report in a timely manner
- Administer Safety programs including coaching, counseling and disciplining of drivers as required
- Review road inspections to ensure drivers are performing assigned duties correctly and safely and that all job specifications are met
- Assist in Operations to ensure driver pull-out on time
- Troubleshoot in-vehicle technology and equipment issues
- Monitor service through visual checks and other means as available
- Review all new hire training and certifications and make recommendations as appropriate
- Maintain accurate records in order to recall details of events
- Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing with all levels of personnel
- Ensure all paperwork (accidents, incidents, first report of injury, etc.) is timely, legible, complete and distributed as required
- Maintains and demonstrates a helpful, positive, and pleasant attitude toward fellow coworkers, the customer, and WeDriveU
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills Required and Physical Demands:
- Thorough knowledge and applicative experience with DOT/FMCSA and OSHA/State-OSHA rules/regulations and orders
- Familiar with all applicablesafetyregulations from EPA (Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Incident Management System (NIMS), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Strong written and oral communication skills
Education and
Qualifications:
Hard Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in transportation Public Safetyand Supervisor experience preferred
- Active CDL with passenger endorsement (or willing/able to secure within six months)
- DOTMED card(or willing/able to secure within six months)
Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree preferred in Occupational Safety, Psychology, Management, Liberal Studies, or other related degree/experience
