Our client is a trusted utility and energy provider delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable solutions to homes and businesses. The Senior Safety Advisor will support enterprise-wide safety strategies and operational risk management within critical infrastructure environments. This is a full-time, contract, onsite position based in Springfield, Virginia. This is a market rate position offering flexibility on pay but our anticipatedpay range is $50-$70 per hour.
Responsibilities- Support execution and progression of the Utility Safety Roadmap, translating strategic priorities into practical program improvements
- Lead development, review, and refinement of foundational safety program elements, including policies, hazard recognition, Job Safety Analyses (JSA), and high-risk work controls
- Drive consistency and quality in safety program implementation across regions and work groups
- Serve as a subject matter expert on OSHA, DOT, NFPA, and company-specific safety standards and policies
- Provide targeted field support through site visits, safety observations, and hazard assessments to validate program effectiveness
- Partner with project managers, supervisors, and crews to identify hazards and verify safety controls and procedures
- Lead or support incident investigations using root-cause methodologies, ensuring systemic improvements
- Monitor and interpret applicable regulations such as OSHA, PHMSA, EPA, and utility standards
- Support compliance audits, corrective actions, and documentation efforts
- Deep knowledge of occupational safety principles, hazard recognition, risk assessment, and safety management systems
- Experience improving safety programs, procedures, and work planning in complex operational environments
- Strong analytical skills to identify trends and systemic issues for program improvement
- Ability to influence leadership and teams through expertise and collaboration
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent military, law enforcement, or industry experience
- 5–10 years of safety experience within utilities, energy, critical infrastructure, or high-risk environments
- Demonstrated success in implementing large-scale safety programs and influencing organizational culture
- Experience conducting investigations, supporting emergency events, and collaborating with risk teams
- Certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, CUSP, FEMA ICS, CEM, NIMS, or incident investigation credentials are preferred
- Proficiency with safety management systems, incident tracking tools, and reporting platforms like Power BI or Smartsheet
