Job Description:
Springfield Plywood and Veneer
Position Title: Boiler Operator Reports to: Boiler Supervisor Department: SPW Plywood Boiler
Wage: Level 4 $ 23.77 Shift: Fri‑Mon GYD 6p‑6a

- Eye Protection
- Hearing Protection
- Gloves
- Boots
Purpose of Position: Responsible for the continuous monitoring, operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the boiler.
Essential Functions- Mix boiler chemicals
- Clean boiler cells by using proper cell procedures
- Operate front‑end loader/bobcat
- Operate cranes/hoists/lifting slings
- Comply with Federal, State, and Company rules, policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
- The worker may be required to rotate to different positions for cross training purposes or to facilitate production. Job duties for other positions are outlined in their individual job descriptions.
- Assist co‑workers or maintenance personnel in basic maintenance and upkeep of machine.
- Cleanup as needed.
Working Environment: Inside 80% of the time:
Average temperature 65°, high 110°, low 50°. Outside 20% of the time:
Average temperature 65°, high 110°, low 30°. Noise or vibration:
Boiler, loader, bobcat and other machine noises, forklift noise and similar heavy equipment. Atmospheric conditions:
Dust, fumes, extreme heat, steam.
- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Climb ladders and lift or carry equipment.
- Stand for long periods and walk for extended periods.
- Concentrate in a noisy environment and perform multiple mental tasks.
- Understand basic operations of the steam boiler.
- Trained in cell cleaning.
- General knowledge of Federal, State, and Company rules, procedures and policies regarding safe operation of steam boiler.
- Reading, speech, and basic computer skills required.
- Ability to complete employee performance evaluation process.
- Successfully complete required training for rolling stock and equipment used.
- Successful completion of firewatch/fire suppression training.
- Firewatch responsibilities: become familiar with facility layout, communicate with maintenance and prior firewatch, inspect work site for hot spots or possible sources of combustion, extinguish fires, continue area inspection after hot work, periodically inspect areas outside hot work zone.

- Pushing/Pulling – Occasional up to 50 lbs.
