CUSTODIAN AIDE II

JOB DESCRIPTION:

General Statement of Duties:
Performs daily cleaning and disinfection tasks in support of the custodial maintenance of assigned buildings including, but not limited to:
Bob Keefer Center, Adult Activity Center, Dorris Ranch, Splash!, and Willamalane Park Swim Center. Performs related work as necessary.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:

An employee in this classification is responsible for performing routine daily cleaning of assigned areas and keeping these areas free of hazards. Incumbents work independently and use judgment in organizing work time to complete tasks. The Custodian position acts as a lead worker to this position. Supervision is not normally a responsibility of positions in this classification, but this position may provide occasional direction to the Custodian Aide I position.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Custodial Supervisor who reviews work based on quality and quantity.

Examples Of Essential Duties Performed:
  • Performs daily cleaning and disinfection of assigned district facilities, which includes vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and glass cleaning.
  • Moves and/or sets up furniture as needed for meetings, programs, or classes.
  • Collects and disposes of trash and recycling in and around buildings.
  • Refills soap and paper dispensers, and other related supplies.
  • Performs facility lock up and arming/disarming of alarms.
  • Maintains communication with Custodial Supervisor and Program Manager, in accordance with department guidelines.
  • Maintains a record of activities performed using computerized systems.
  • Performs additional job‑related duties as required.
DESIRABLE

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge: Intermediate knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in cleaning public facilities, including swimming pools and recreation facilities; related safety practices, safety equipment and precautions in performing responsibilities.

Skills: The use of cleaning tools and proper handling of cleaning and disinfecting solutions. Use of computerized systems for recording work performed.

Abilities: Work independently; exercise initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities; understand and follow written and oral instructions; communicate professionally and effectively with supervisor and other staff; lift and move tables, and chairs; establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other staff members and guests.

Physical Demands of The Position:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to bend, twist, kneel, stoop, crouch, often in conjunction with reaching for and manipulating objects and cleaning equipment. This position requires the employee to be standing/walking for over 75% of the work period. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis such as boxes, bags, small equipment, etc.

and may occasionally require the employee to material heavier than 100 pounds with the assistance of a dolly or cart. Manual dexterity and coordination, including but not limited to grasping and squeezing, are required for the vast majority of the work period. Work is mostly performed indoors, but some outdoor work may be required. Exposure to loud noise is moderate and may occasionally require the use of ear protection.
