Overview

The Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operation of the skilled nursing facility in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. The LNHA ensures high-quality care for residents, compliance with healthcare standards, sound financial performance, and a positive, team-oriented culture among staff.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Operations: Provide strategic direction and day-to-day oversight of all departments: nursing, therapy, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, social services, and activities. Ensure delivery of quality resident care that meets or exceeds clinical, regulatory, and customer service standards. Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, and resident-centered care. Conduct regular leadership meetings and foster collaboration among department heads.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, and Department of Health requirements. Ensure readiness for and successful outcomes during surveys, audits, and inspections. Respond to and implement corrective action plans following deficiencies or findings.
  • Financial Oversight: Develop and manage the facility's budget, monitor expenses, and implement cost control strategies. Oversee billing, reimbursement, and collections in coordination with the Business Office Manager. Monitor census, payer mix, and revenue cycles to meet or exceed financial targets. Collaborate with corporate finance and regional teams on fiscal planning.
  • Human Resources & Staffing: Hire, develop, and evaluate department managers and leadership team members. Support recruitment, training, and retention of qualified staff across all departments. Promote employee engagement and implement programs to improve morale and reduce turnover. Oversee compliance with HR policies, labor laws, and union contracts (if applicable).
  • Resident & Family Relations: Serve as the primary representative of the facility to residents, families, and the community. Resolve concerns promptly and ensure resident rights and satisfaction are prioritized. Promote positive relationships through communication, transparency, and visibility. Lead or attend resident council and family meetings as appropriate.
  • Marketing & Community Engagement: Collaborate with admissions and marketing teams to maintain and grow facility census. Develop relationships with referral sources (e.g., hospitals, case managers, hospice, home health). Represent the facility at community events, meetings, and public outreach opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Valid and active LNHA license in the state of employment
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field (required);
    Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in long-term care administration or healthcare leadership
  • Deep knowledge of CMS regulations, quality measures, and reimbursement (Medicare/Medicaid)
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, lead teams, and drive census growth
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations with professionalism and ethical judgment
