Assistant to City Treasurer
The City of Springfield is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant to City Treasurer. Under the direction of the City Treasurer, this position performs skilled and specialized treasury duties including recording revenues received by the City, monitoring accounts receivable and invoicing customers, customer service to internal and external customers, and assisting the City Treasurer.
Responsibilities- Receipts payments received from external customers as well as other City departments; verifies accuracy of check, currency and coin submitted to the Treasurer’s Office; determines appropriate fund and bank account for the deposit of those receipts.
- Prepares daily bank deposit.
- Assists in research necessary for monthly bank reconciliations.
- Establishes and maintains accounts receivable system for various types of transactions; invoices customers according to the terms of their agreement with the City.
- Establishes and maintains procedures for void checks, contra-revenues, and refunds due to the City.
- Processes and monitors financial transactions, including researching and resolving discrepancies, runs reports, maintains accounting and billing records, and other basic accounting tasks.
- Organizes meetings, creates agendas, edits correspondence, originates and formats reports, orders office supplies, and other similar responsibilities.
- Creates purchase requisitions for treasury related purchases.
- Responsible for records management and retention, including scanning in accordance with established retention guidelines.
- Greets visitors and routes them to appropriate individuals, screens and prioritizes incoming calls, researches and responds to internal and external customer inquiries and determines, and takes appropriate action as required.
- Assists general public regarding questions of various transactions (assessments, returned checks, etc.).
- May be exposed to some confidential and sensitive information acquired incidental to, or as part of, job responsibilities.
- Performs all other job related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
- Associate degree in business, accounting, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of three years of related experience preferred
- Proficency in Microsoft Office and other modern office products
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to follow oral and written instructions
- Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license and meet and maintain insurability under the City’s insurance plan.
