Under the supervision of the Stroke Center Medical Director and Stroke Center Manager, and in collaboration with Stroke quality team, implements inpatient stroke related performance improvement plans and processes using evidence-based guidelines. Responds to all stroke activations to help identify and manage acute stroke patients. Navigates patients, families, and/or care teams to appropriate areas in both emergent and non- emergent situations.
This individual is integral to the timely and effective management of stroke patients, playing a critical role in improving patient outcomes and quality of care. By quickly assessing, administering treatments, and coordinating with the healthcare team, the Stroke Nurse Navigator ensures patients receive the best care possible during the most critical moments. Their expertise in stroke management, combined with compassionate patient care, is essential in driving collaborative care, metric compliance, policy adherence, patient and family education, and the application of care outlined by current clinical practice guidelines.

Graduate of an accredited nursing program - Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing - Required:
Maintains a minimum of 10 hours of stroke related education annually
- Preferred: 5 years neurological nursing experience
- Demonstrates leadership skills
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Competency in the use of Microsoft Office computer applications
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Demonstrates knowledge of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology
- Required:
RN License active in the state of Missouri AND NIHSS certification (within 90 days of hire) AND Alteplase t-PA credentialing (within 90 days of hire) - Required:
Relevant certification within 1 year of hire - Required:
NIHSS certification (within 90 days of hire) AND IV thrombolytic credentialing (within 90 days of hire) - Required:
BLS must be obtained with 90 days - Required:
Must obtain ACLS within one year of hire

Previous nursing experience - Excellent verbal and written communication skills
