summary
the ptm operator conducts set‑ups and operates precision transfer machines to produce high quality parts. This role requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
essential duties and responsibilities
- conduct complete changeovers for machines to transition to new parts.
- studies blueprints and layout sheets to determine machining to be done, dimensions of parts permissible tolerances, and plans sequence of operations
- visualizes movement of machine parts, work pieces, and tools in each operation in relation to others and decides on station and timing of each operation to assure efficient use of tools and time.
- selects cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts and cutting tools to be used, based on experience and knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics, or by referring to tables, charts, or instructions on layout sheets.
- installs part loaders, collets, and bushings
- mounts cutting tools in spindles on machines, and verifies their position using gauges and other measuring instruments
- operates machines through a cycle, adjusts tool positions, and machine controls as needed to allow for factors such as timing and clearance between moving parts
- starts, observes, and certifies machine conformance of first run and sample work pieces to specifications, using assorted measuring instruments.
- replaces worn tools.
- ensure machines are operating and producing quality parts at an efficient rate.
- uphold positronic’s standards of integrity, quality, and operational excellence.
- identify hazards in the workplace and report them to management and/or the safety coordinator.
- collaborate with the ehs department to meet local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including osha, nfpa, dnr, epa, and amphenol sustainability practices.
- work with the quality department to ensure compliance with as9100 certification standards.
- comply with all company policies and procedures.
- perform other duties as assigned.
requirements
education and experience
high school diploma or equivalent
minimum 2 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
physical
- long periods of standing with occasional walking and sitting
- regular bending, twisting, reaching overhead, and pushing/pulling
- frequent use of hands and arms for handling tools, fine motor tasks, and repetitive motion
- must be able to lift 25 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally
working conditions
work performed on production floor with constant loud noise and airborne particles. Involves regular exposure to oil, chemicals, and non-harmful fumes. Ppe such as safety glasses are required.
