Position: Emergency Medical Tech (Non-Exempt)

Performs direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and basic life support according to the goals of Mercy Health System, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standard of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. EMT-I's may also perform clerical, dispatch, and maintenance duties as required. Performs related duties as assigned.

Full Time EMT position @ Mercy Springfield

42/84 hours

  • Licensure: EMT license for the state where employed, valid driver's license.
  • Experience: Applicants must be at least 19 years of age to operate Mercy EMS vehicles.
  • Certifications/Registration: Hazmat Awareness, BLS for Healthcare Providers, NIMS 100, 200, 700 and 800 within 90 days of hire.

    Physical Requirements:

    Must be able to respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles, carry equipment and patients, perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR, lifting and moving of equipment and patients in a variety of environmental conditions, perform required medical skills and techniques, have correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles, color acuity adequate for determining of skin and blood color, read medication dosages on drug labels and syringes, hear and understand information provided by patients, families or bystanders, hear breathing sounds and accurately determine auscultated blood pressure, differentiate separate conversations in active, distracting environments, hear and understand radio traffic when responding with lights and sirens, speak and enunciate clearly and at a level audible to others in loud conditions, speak clearly in stressful situations, verbally communicate with patients, families and other emergency services personnel, and successfully satisfy the physical demands of the role including a pre-hire and annual fitness for duty test.
  • Equipment Used: Mobile and portable communications equipment, Monitor/Defibrillator/Pacer, approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop type device, variety of bags and kits, assigned ambulance, computer, FAX, printer and other office related equipment.
  • Preferred Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Preferred Certification/Registration: ITLS or equivalent training.
