Environmental Engineer, Operations Manager
The City of Springfield is seeking a forward-thinking Sewer Operations Coordinator to join our Environmental Services team. This position will provide direct supervision of the Flow Monitoring Team and lead the relaunch and ongoing implementation of the Private Sewer Repair Program in support of our Sewer Overflow Control Program (SOCP).
This role is ideal for a progressive, data-driven professional who thrives in a collaborative team environment. The successful candidate will be able to digest complex operational and monitoring data, translate it into clear action steps, and make informed decisions that improve system performance, reduce risk, and support regulatory compliance.
The Sewer Operations Coordinator will play a key role in aligning field operations, data analysis, and program strategy—ensuring our collection system is proactively managed, customer impacts are minimized, and long-term infrastructure goals are achieved.
We are looking for a team player who values accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation in operations.
Qualifications And Requirements Experience, Education, and Training- Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- Two years of appropriate experience in the performance of sanitary sewer system evaluations, inspections, maintenance, and testing, or related experience.
- Directly related work experience may be substituted for education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- Supervisory experience.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must be willing to obtain Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP) and Manhole Assessment Certification Program (MACP) certification within 12 months of employment.
