Overview

Reports to: Director V - Early Childhood/Parents as Teachers

GENERAL PURPOSE

Responsible for providing support to the instructional program in the lead teacher role and primary caregiver responsibilities for a group of infants/toddlers. Specific responsibilities for working with parents of young children, promoting their involvement and providing information and/or direction; assisting parents in goal setting and educational development; developing and refining program materials; and assisting in transitioning students to preschool and kindergarten.

ESSENTIAL

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Direct classroom paraprofessionals, practicum students and classroom volunteers.
  • Create and adapt lessons and instructional delivery for children using approved infant/toddler curriculum.
  • Create and adapt lessons and instructional delivery for parents providing children and families with instruction that meets individual developmental levels using nationally approved, research-based home visitation curriculum, Parents as Teachers Foundational (prenatal-3) and Parents as Teachers Foundational 2 (3-K).
  • Adapt and administer classroom activities, supporting instruction and reinforcing classroom objectives and curriculum.
  • Prepare a variety of documents, reports, and written materials communicating information to parents, and receiving school and agencies; providing written support, developing recommendations and/or conveying information on child development.
  • Prepare, track, and follow through with referrals to appropriate agencies, such as First Steps and Early Childhood Special Education.
  • Administer annual formal and informal screenings and assessments on children and families using approved screening and assessment tools.
  • Interpret and utilize information from screenings and assessments to individualize instruction in the classroom as well as refer families and children to appropriate school and community resources.
  • Assist students, individually and in small groups practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching Early Learning academic goals and standards.
  • Implement interventions, presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  • Communicate with parents and/or legal guardians regarding children’s developmental progress engaging stakeholders in the child’s education and development.
  • Counsel parents, PreK-5 school staff, and community agencies evaluating situations, solving problems, resolving conflicts, referral to appropriate professionals and enhancing probability of child development.
  • Maintain a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records documenting and/or providing reliable information.
  • Organize parent workshops and meetings enhancing parents’ learning how to teach their children and developing involvement their child's preschool activities.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources providing information and/or direction as may be required.
  • Report incidents, such as suspected child abuse or neglect, maintaining safety and well-being of families, while providing a positive learning environment and adhering to applicable laws and/or regulations.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings and on-going professional development conveying and/or gathering information required to perform the job’s function.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, Missouri state Early Childhood Development Act (ECDA) legislative guidelines, and National Center for Parents as Teachers for meeting regulatory and other requirements.
  • Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources resolving issues and/or providing direction.
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

• Minimum of one (1) year of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

  • Must obtain and maintain Missouri Substitute Teaching Certification.
