Position Overview
Vet Ex Pro is seeking a licensed Optometrist to perform Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Compensation and Pension (C&P) eye examinations at our Springfield, Missouri clinic located on the Medical Mile. This role is strictly evaluative and does not involve treatment, prescribing, or ongoing patient care. Examinations are conducted to support VA disability determinations through objective medical assessment and documentation.
ResponsibilitiesThe Optometrist will perform comprehensive eye examinations in accordance with VA Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and established VA examination protocols. Duties include review of relevant medical records, completion of required clinical testing, and accurate documentation of findings addressing diagnosis, severity, and functional impact. When requested, the provider will complete VA-specific medical opinion sections. All reports must be completed in a timely and professional manner.
ExaminationScope
Visual acuity and refraction assessment.
Visual field testing.
Evaluation of ocular health including cataracts, glaucoma, retinal and optic nerve conditions.
Assessment of functional impairment affecting occupational and daily activities.
Completion of VA-required DBQs and medical opinions.
QualificationsDoctor of Optometry (OD) from an accredited institution.
Active, unrestricted optometry license in Missouri.
Strong attention to detail and structured clinical documentation skills.
Experience with VA C&P examinations, disability evaluations, or DBQs is preferred but not required.
Training and SupportVet Ex Pro provides orientation and exam-specific training. Training time is paid. Administrative and scheduling support is provided to allow providers to focus solely on examinations and documentation.
Work SettingAll examinations are conducted on-site at Vet Ex Pro ’s Springfield clinic on the Medical Mile. Scheduling is flexible with predictable exam volume. Appointments are typically scheduled in 30-minute slots. No on-call responsibilities, no insurance billing, and no patient follow-up care.
Role ClarificationThis position does not involve medical treatment, prescribing corrective lenses or medications, or establishing provider-patient relationships. The Optometrist’s role is limited to objective examination and documentation for VA disability evaluation purposes. Compensation is not influenced by examination findings or outcomes.
CompensationCompetitive per-exam compensation ranging from $125–$175 per exam
