We're looking for an experienced and highly motivated Construction Superintendent to lead the on-site execution of complex environmental construction projects. This superintendent role will support a growing part of EWI's business, where the right person will have room to put their stamp on how we build and execute projects in the field.
The successful candidate will ensure all projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards while meeting all environmental regulations and project specifications.
Construction Superintendent | Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution:
- Direct and manage all on-site construction activities, ensuring strict adherence to design specifications, plans, and quality control standards for environmental and industrial construction projects (e.g., industrial piping, processing plant additions, demolition, structural steel, landfill closures, contaminated soil remediation, wetland construction, etc.).
- Maintain and manage the project construction schedule in coordination with the Project Manager, ensuring milestones are met.
- Coordinate all construction activities, sequencing, and logistics, including the efficient delivery and deployment of equipment and materials and procurement responsibilities.
- Monitor daily progress, identify potential risks or delays, and implement proactive solutions to mitigate impact.
- Conduct regular, detailed site inspections to ensure quality of work and compliance with all contract documents.
- Lead by example in promoting and enforcing a rigorous safety culture. Ensure strict adherence to all company, federal (OSHA), state, and local safety regulations, with a strong focus on site-specific safety plans related to construction and environmental hazards (e.g., working with contaminated materials, confined spaces, hazardous waste, temporary cranes).
- Conduct daily/weekly safety meetings (toolbox talks) and safety inspections.
- Ensure full compliance with all project-specific environmental and construction permits, plans (SWPPP, crane hoisting plans, open excavation permits, etc.), and regulatory requirements.
- Manage and document all incident reports and near-misses in coordination with the Safety Manager.
- Supervise, mentor, and direct the work of company personnel, laborers, and heavy equipment operators.
- Coordinate and manage all subcontractors and vendors, ensuring they adhere to the project schedule, scope of work, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Conduct pre-construction meetings and hold daily coordination meetings with all on-site personnel.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate daily logs, including progress, manpower, equipment usage, material deliveries, safety issues, and site conditions.
- Review and verify all project-related documentation, including time sheets, delivery tickets, and work authorization forms.
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact, communicating effectively with the Project Manager, engineers, clients, regulatory inspectors, and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in progress meetings and clearly articulate site status and any challenges encountered.
- Assist the Project Manager in monitoring project costs and ensuring work is performed efficiently to stay within budget.
- Manage the efficient utilization, maintenance, and tracking of all company-owned and rented construction equipment.
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field is a plus. - Experience:
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent, with at least 3 years specifically managing environmental, heavy civil, or highly regulated industrial construction projects. - Certifications:
