General FunctionThe Construction Technician performs a wide range of skilled construction tasks including maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating, and/or air conditioning in facilities and equipment at a level not requiring formal licensure. The Construction Technician may be required to perform tasks of other unlicensed trades, such as operating light equipment, carpentry, and painting. The Construction Technician practices preventative maintenance of tools and equipment and complies with federal regulations governing safety, environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemical substances and materials common to construction.

The Construction Technician practices preventative maintenance of tools and equipment and complies with federal regulations governing safety, environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemical substances and materials common to construction.
MinimumAcceptable Qualifications
Education: A high school diploma or the equivalent is required.
Experience: At least four years of successful experience in carpentry building trades such as wood and metal stud framing, drywall, painting, carpet and floor coverings, suspended ceilings, doors and hardware, finish carpentry such as trim and millwork, etc. is required.
Skills: Proficiency in some or all of the carpentry trades noted above is required, including the ability to use shop tools and equipment, small hand and power tools, precision measuring and testing devices, and various building trades materials. Attention to quality workmanship as well as job site and shop cleanliness is required. The ability to understand and interpret blueprints and schematics is required.
The ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures is required. The ability to coordinate and appropriately sequence work with other trades is required.
Other: The scope of the position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, cleaners, and lubricants common to the construction trades that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed. The position requires that the employee assume diligent responsibility for their attendance and punctuality.
Other qualifications: A valid driver’s license is required.
