HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic I - Part Time - Springfield Technical Community College

Join the Springfield Technical Community College community by applying for the HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic I part-time position. This role assists with heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment, maintains and repairs building controls, and monitors system performance.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment.
  • Check equipment and assist with review of malfunctioning HVAC systems.
  • Maintain, rebuild, and repair by replacing worn or defective parts.
  • Treat open and closed water systems such as cooling towers by adding algaecides to prevent airborne bacteria.
  • Make and assemble metal ducts and chassis parts for heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
  • Drill holes for mounting brackets; screw, bore, rivet, and weld parts to assemble structural and functional components such as motors, controls, switches, and gauges.
  • Install shells and cabinets of systems and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • At least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time technical experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems.
  • One-year certificate from an HVAC program preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications, operation manuals, and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of standard preventive maintenance procedures for HVAC and related electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems.
  • EPA Universal certification preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 plus.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands

HVAC mechanics stand and walk for prolonged periods, lift and carry heavy objects, work outdoors and indoors, and work varied shifts, weekends, holidays, or nights. They are exposed to hazards such as wet, slippery floors, chemicals, toxic and noxious fumes, dust, excessive heat, high noise levels, high volume traffic conditions, high voltage wires, and work from ladders and scaffolds.

Additional Information

Salary: $20 per hour. Up to 18.5 hours per week. Department flexibility in work hours and days to accommodate candidate availability.
