The Opportunity
Mass Mutual Strategic Distributors (MMSD) is looking for a self-starting and partnership-oriented Life Internal Wholesaler to join our Internal Sales Desk. You will have a strong desire to broaden financial wellness and education to communities throughout the country.
The TeamThe Internal Sales Desk at Mass Mutual Strategic Distributors works with distributors in the third‑party/independent/brokerage general agent space to sell our Whole Life and Variable Universal Life, Universal Life, Term products through financial advisors and independent agents.
The ImpactIn this role, you consult with our clients (broker dealers, captive agents and/or institutions) on pre‑and‑post‑sale technical product support. You respond to inquiries from our distribution partners and advisors on products, sales designs/concepts, and product positioning. You communicate confidently with your customer base and drive sales in partnership with your territory’s Managing Director. You provide sales and marketing materials and specific sales illustration support as needed.
In partnership with your Internal Wholesaling and Advances Sales team, you build your knowledge of life insurance products, riders, concepts while gaining industry knowledge and insights on market trends. Respond to email inquiries from customers and partners. You develop and maintain strong business relationships with key distributors to help meet sales goals and collaborate with various internal departments to insure proper processing of business.
As an Internal Wholesaler, you will be responsible for driving life insurance sales and strengthening distribution partner relationships within your assigned territory. Working in close partnership with a Regional Director (External Wholesaler), you will execute a proactive, activity‑based sales strategy focused on education, opportunity development, and pipeline management.
Key ResponsibilitiesDrive life insurance sales through proactive outbound calls while managing inbound phone activity, email correspondence, and virtual presentations/webinars with distribution partners.
Partner closely with a Regional Director (External Wholesaler) to execute territory business plans and collectively drive activity, opportunity creation, and sales results.
Engage consistently with BGAs and Broker‑Dealer partners, advancing the sales process by probing for opportunities, educating on solutions, positioning concepts, and presenting Mass Mutual as the carrier of choice.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of Mass Mutual’s life insurance product portfolio and competitive landscape to effectively support consultative sales conversations.
Own and actively manage a personal sales pipeline, with clear accountability for next steps, follow‑up, and progression of opportunities.
Deliver an exceptional customer experience, consistently demonstrating a client‑first mindset and commitment to going above and beyond in every interaction.
Provide leadership within the internal sales team through collaboration, mentorship, and peer support.
Participate fully in sales desk campaigns, call initiatives, and targeted marketing efforts designed to drive activity and results.
Establish clear expectations and engagement plans in partnership with your External Wholesaler to ensure alignment, accountability, and consistent territory execution.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or High School Diploma + 4+ years’ work experience in financial services
2+ years' working experience with life insurance clients, broker dealers, captive agents and/or institutions
FINRA SIE, Series 6 & 63 at time of application or must obtain within 6 months of hire
State Life & Health at time of application or must obtain within 6 months of hire
Bachelor's degree
5+ years’ experience of sales or sales support experience with life insurance products
FINRA SIE, Series 6 and 63 at time of application
State Life & Health at time of application
Proven communication skills (both written and verbal)
