Registered Nurse Observation Unit (R39866)

Join Baystate Health as a Registered Nurse on our Observation Unit. This full‑time position is located at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. Shift: Third (6 p.m.–6 a.m.) with rotating weekend and holiday schedule.

Compensation

Base salary range is $41.00–$65.00 per hour. New graduates receive $41.00 per hour; experienced RNs receive $43.16–$65.00. Sign‑on bonus is available for new external hires. Shift differential and allowance plans apply.

  • Full time, night shift 6 p.m.–6 a.m.

Patient Population & Responsibilities
  • Provide care to outpatient/observation patients admitted from the Emergency Department for short stays (≤24 hours)
  • Treat a variety of diagnoses including chest pain, asthma, syncope, anemia, back pain, DVT, heart failure, and others
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and clinical status, documenting findings promptly
  • Communicate with physicians, case managers and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans
  • Educate patients and families on management of acute conditions and discharge instructions
  • Adhere to Baystate Health policies, procedural protocols, and the Massachusetts Board standards
Qualifications
  • Board of Registration in Nursing Examination, licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Education:

    ADN required; BSN preferred
  • Strong communication and critical‑thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently in a high‑acuity environment
