Job Announcement:
Development Director

Posting Date:
January 9, 2025

Organizational Description

Pioneer Valley Workers Center (PVWC) organizes to build power with immigrant workers in Western Massachusetts. Through grassroots organizing and mutual aid, we aim to transform the systems and institutions exploiting immigrant workers in Western Massachusetts and beyond. We are a base-building organization of members who are immigrants from Latin America, employed seasonally in farming, construction, cleaning, and restaurants across the Pioneer Valley.

We believe that those who are closest to the issues are also closest to the solutions. We embody this value through having a leadership team who come from our base as former members of our Worker Committees and have been trained through leadership pipelines.

Job Description

PVWC is seeking a full-time Development Director to grow the organization’s resources and long-term sustainability. The Development Director will lead fundraising campaigns, steward individual donor relationships, and manage PVWC’s grant portfolio in close collaboration with the Associate Director and Executive Director. We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented fundraiser who approaches development as grassroots resource mobilization—understanding fundraising as organizing and power-building work that is essential to strong, people-led movements.

The ideal candidate is able to manage a high volume of work with efficiency, care, and accountability. This is a salaried, exempt position, offered at 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities
  • Lead organizational fundraising campaigns, including the End-of-Year appeal and annual sustainer drive.
  • Oversee donor engagement, cultivation, and stewardship activities, including 1:1 meetings with current and prospective donors, acknowledgments, and data tracking.
  • Manage and maintain the CRM donor database, ensuring accuracy, reporting, and donor insights.
  • Develop donor communications that deepen relationships and connect supporters to PVWC’s mission and impact.
  • Develop and implement PVWC’s fundraising strategy and multi-year development plan in collaboration with the Associate and Executive Directors.
  • Research and identify new grant opportunities aligned with PVWC’s mission and movement-building strategy.
  • Write and submit grant proposals to existing and prospective funders.
  • Track grant timelines, manage reporting requirements, and ensure timely submission of all grant reports.
  • Cultivate funder relationships and identify opportunities to educate funders about the importance of movement-building work.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience with grassroots fundraising and/or organizing in a professional or volunteer capacity.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Confidence working under deadlines and proactively communicating with others about barriers or to ask for support.
  • Commitment to PVWC’s mission of building immigrant worker power.
  • Excellent attention to detail, comfortable with managing diverse responsibilities.
  • Ability to work well with others, be a team player.
  • Basic level of Spanish is required; proficiency or fluency preferred.

Commitment to racial equity and social justice:
You recognize the intersectional roles of race, income, age, immigration status, class, and other identities shaping our world, and you consistently amplify community voices to advocate for more equitable solutions. You recognize how your own identities show up in the work, and welcome, reflect on, and act on feedback with an eye toward continuous learning and development.

Organizational Structure

Dynamic, supportive work environment. This position will report to PVWC’s Associate Director and will work closely with the Associate Director and Executive Director.

Compensation

$70,000. This is a salaried, exempt position. 120 hours of vacation offered per year on an accrual basis. Health, dental and vision insurance provided. Retirement plan offered.

Hours, Location

The position is offered at 40 hours/week. This position will be based at our Springfield office for a minimum of 3 days per week in-person and requires some travel to donor meetings throughout the Pioneer Valley. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
