SummaryThe Director, System Security and Public Safety is responsible for the strategic oversight and leadership of the organization’s security functions, including physical security, workplace violence prevention and response, regulatory compliance, and—when applicable—coordination with cyber security resources.
- The Director, System Security and Public Safety is responsible for the strategic oversight and leadership of the organization’s security functions, including physical security, workplace violence prevention and response, regulatory compliance, and—when applicable—coordination with cyber security resources.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive enterprise security strategy aligned with Baystate Health’s vision and mission and healthcare security best practices.
- Lead system-wide workplace violence prevention and threat assessment programs.
- Oversee security operations, including security and public safety officers, surveillance systems, access control, and incident investigations.
- Compliance with regulatory bodies (Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, HIPAA, and others).
- Serve as the senior leader during critical security events or emergencies.
- Report key metrics to executive leadership and governing boards.
- Lead the System Security and Public Safety department’s hiring, training, employee engagement, and performance management functions.
- Support hospital accreditation, security vulnerability assessments, and patient experience initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of employee engagement practices, management practices, process improvement, diversity, as well as the ability to support the organization's mission and operating principles.
Job Responsibilities- Leads, mentors and coaches subordinate managers and supervisors, to ensure effective systems and processes are in place for staff planning, talent acquisition, engagement, retention, performance & conflict management, and professional development. Reviews and approves disciplinary action and/or terminations under the guidance of HR. May direct the investigation and resolution of complaints or other staffing problems. As a successful mentor and motivator, effectively develops current and future leaders.
Collaborates effectively with BH team members, stakeholders and others. - Incorporates operational practices that engage staff to deliver and meet/exceed quality, safety, financial, and patient/family experience targets. Strategically utilizes local, regional and national benchmarks and networks to advance services.
- Establishes and maintains an environment/culture that is committed to promotion of the BH operating principles, high standards of quality care, patient safety, and customer service. Emphasizes elements of operational excellence: the achievement of high value (high quality at low cost), extraordinary service and cultivation of highly effective teams. Promotes and supports a Culture of Safety throughout Baystate Health, serving as a conflict resolution mentor and system wide coach.
- Participates as a member of the Safety, Building Project Committees, and various ad-hoc committees. Co-chairs Workforce Safety Task Force having a key role in Workforce safety and violence mitigation initiatives.
- Makes the final decision on employee hiring, merit review, separation, promotion, transfer, disciplinary matters and similar actions for System Security and Public Safety personnel.
