The mission of the Hampden District Attorney is to serve the people of Hampden County by faithfully pursuing criminal justice and ensuring public safety with ethics, integrity, and fairness as our guiding values.

Position:
Assistant District Attorney – Appeals Unit

We are seeking applicants for the position of Assistant District Attorney in the Appeals Unit.

Responsibilities
  • Research, draft, file, and argue complex and high‑profile appellate cases in the SJC and Appeals Court.
  • Research, draft, file, and argue post‑conviction matters in the superior, district, and juvenile courts.
  • Provide legal advice to other assistant district attorneys in the office.
  • Second‑chair homicide cases.
  • Participate in relevant trainings.
  • Interact respectfully and professionally with the public, judicial, law enforcement personnel, and office staff.
  • Complete work assignments on time, accurately and efficiently.
Qualifications
  • Law school graduate from an accredited law school (Juris Doctorate).
  • Excellent research, writing, communication, and computer skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with and adherence to Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office Personnel Policies.
  • Prior clerkship or law review experience is desirable.
Benefits

All full‑time positions offer a state benefit package including health, life, disability, and dental/vision insurances, retirement plans, vacation, personal and sick leave. Payroll is paid bi‑weekly based on a 37.5‑hour work week (normally 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). All job offers are contingent upon a successful background check. All positions serve at the pleasure of the District Attorney.
