Position SummaryAs a Sterile Processing Technician
, you’ll play a critical role in supporting surgical and clinical teams by ensuring all instruments and medical equipment meet the highest standards of cleanliness and sterility. This position requires attention to detail, strong infection prevention knowledge, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
You’ll work with both manual and automated processes and utilize advanced sterilization technologies, including steam, ethylene oxide, and low-temperature gas plasma systems
.
- Apply infection prevention and safety principles across all sterile processing activities
- Decontaminate reusable instruments using proper cleaning methods
- Operate and maintain washers, ultrasonic equipment, and sterilizers
- Perform and document daily quality assurance testing (TOSI, Sono Check, biological and chemical indicators)
- Inspect, assemble, package, wrap, and sterilize surgical instrument trays and devices
- Assemble an average of 4–6 trays per hour while maintaining strict quality standards
- Load and unload sterilizers and verify sterile integrity prior to release
- Accurately scan instruments, trays, and supplies into the tracking system
- Prepare surgical case carts using first-in/first-out inventory practices
- Inspect sterile items for packaging integrity and expiration dates
- Maintain clean, organized work spaces to support safe, efficient workflows
- Collaborate closely with peers, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
Required:
- Completion of an accredited sterile processing program
- CRCST (HSPA) or CSPDT (CBSPD) certification required within 18 months of hire
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong commitment to teamwork, quality, and patient safety
Preferred:
- At least one (1) year of sterile processing experience
Certification:
- CBSPD and/or HSPA certification required within 18 months of hire
- Comprehensive 8–12 week orientation
- Web-based training and required hand hygiene education
- Hands-on experience in all areas of sterile processing, including decontamination, prep & packaging, and sterilization
