Full-Time - Shift: Third (Night shift – 7:00 p‑7:30 a)
- Hours:
36 per week - Every other weekend and holiday required
Base hourly salary range: $16.68 – $20.39 – $25.36. Actual salary depends on experience.
Requirements- American Heart Association BLS certification required.
- A resume is required to determine experience.*
- Preferred training: PCT or CNA.
Daily activities are coordinated by the Registered Nurse (RN). The PCT performs a variety of technical tasks and bedside functions. Responsibilities include patient care, hygiene, skin care, mobility, monitoring, phlebotomy, EKGs, equipment management, and assisting in procedures. The PCT is expected to perform other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities- Provides age‑appropriate care to patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages and applies developmental theories and concepts when implementing care.
- Monitors basic physiological parameters.
- Takes and records routine vital signs within the specified timeframe.
- Obtains and documents weights, heights, abdominal girths, and head circumference (pediatric) as per physician/nurse orders 100% of the time.
- Records and reports any significant deviations in vital signs and any changes in normal drainage patterns.
- Administers treatments and procedures per Baystate policy/procedure.
- Provides post‑mortem care as directed by RN.
- Performs nursing procedures outlined in the manual.
- Assists physicians with exams and simple procedures, confirming patient identity.
- Assists patients with elimination of body wastes.
- Provides bedpan, urinals, and emesis basin immediately after patient request.
- Labels and sends specimens within 30 minutes of the specified timeframe.
- Accurately measures and records intake and output per established policy.
- Performs Point of Care (POC) testing.
- Assists in delivery of ancillary services and follows treatment plans.
- Monitors patient’s condition during treatment and notifies staff of unexpected occurrences.
- Communicates effectively with team and patients, recognizing cultural needs.
- Initiates emergency procedures as needed and maintains patient safety.
- Functions as a member of the team, providing feedback and assisting with non‑clinical activities.
- Demonstrates competency for one‑to‑one observation of patients based on departmental needs.
- Level I:
Preferred PCT or CNA training. - Level II:
At least one year of patient‑care experience. - Level III:
High school diploma or GED; three or more years of patient‑care experience and at least one year as a Level II PCT at Baystate Health. - Level IV:
High school diploma or GED; four or more years of acute or specialty‑specific care and at least one year as a Level III PCT.
- Proficient in reading and writing in English.
- Maintains professional composure in medium to high‑stress situations.
- Effective communication skills.
