Job Title: Recovery Coach (B)

Job Summary

We are looking for people in recovery to support individuals in the early stages of recovery by helping to remove barriers and obstacles for those new to the system of care. This is a non-clinical, strength based peer-to-peer support service in which you will provide people with linkages to the recovery community. As a Recovery Coach you will serve as a personal guide and mentor and help individuals understand the system of care and how to navigate it.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Explain Recovery Coaching per-to-peer support to Recoverees during initial contact.
  • Establish recovery-relationship with Recoveree by explaining Recovery Coach role, discussing principles of self-determination and ethical considerations including confidentiality, assisting Recoveree in development of their Wellness Plan, and Recoverees determination to continue or end Recovery Coaching.
  • Assist the Recoveree in creating their Wellness Plan.
  • Identify recovery resources and assist Recoveree in building recovery capital.
  • Work flexible schedule and meet Recoveree where they are comfortable, including in the community.
  • If applicable to role within the PRSC, Meet, collaborate, coordinate support services and attend appointments with recoverees for probation, parole, employment and educational agencies, Department of Children and Families (DCF), human services providers, medical and primary care, clinical mental/behavioral health, family support, etc.
  • Maintain progress notes that are accurate and complete. Notes are kept for each face-to-face meeting, are dated, have start and end time noted and are signed by the Recovery Coach.
  • Provide recoveree education in finances, housing stability, behavioral and primary health, life skills and all aspects of addiction and related life domains.
  • Provide crisis intervention by assessing severity of the episode, de-escalating the recoveree, referring to emergency response team as needed, and developing a safety plan to assist in resolving the crisis.
  • Exemplify recovery principles and set an example that recovery is attainable.
  • Ability to climb at least three flights of stairs.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations by placing calls to Fire, Rescue, Police, and Medical, etc.
  • Provide and arrange temporary transportation in accordance with Gandara's Transportation Protocol.
  • Understand and use agency/department policies and procedures, including Gandara Center's Recovery Coach Code of Ethics. Seek clarification as needed from Supervisor.
  • Attend Recovery Coach Group/individual Supervision and training related to attaining Massachusetts Recovery Coach Certification.
  • Work with Recoverees that are unhoused and in current active use.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • As a hiring expectation, you must participate in the recovery coach academy program
  • High School Diploma or GED, reasonable exceptions may be made in certain situations.
  • Must have lived experience and 2 years acknowledged continuous sobriety
  • Experience and knowledge regarding the addiction treatment service system.
  • Must have a personal vehicle
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Bilingual individuals encouraged to apply
  • Eligible to be a certified recovery coach
  • Experience with adults diagnosed with a substance use disorder
