Principal Assessor

Overview

The Town of Boxborough seeks a knowledgeable and collaborative Principal Assessor to lead the Town’s assessing operations and ensure fair, accurate, and transparent property valuation for the community.

The Principal Assessor manages the daily operations of the Assessing Department and oversees the valuation of all real and personal property in accordance with Massachusetts law and Department of Revenue regulations. The position works closely with the Town Administrator, finance team, and Board of Assessors to support the annual tax levy and tax rate setting process.

• Oversee property valuation and maintain accurate assessment records.
• Manage cyclical inspections and revaluations.
• Administer abatements and exemptions.
• Supervise staff and provide clear guidance to residents, businesses, and Town boards.

• Strong knowledge of Massachusetts assessing practices, mass appraisal, and property valuation.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
• Commitment to fairness and public service.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in municipal assessing.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

Hiring range: $78,596 to $100,588 DOQ.
