Become a Student Support Specialist, Academic Support Specialist, or an After School Support Specialist. Within the Ameri Corps program, Ameri Corps members like you can support students, providing mentorship, academic coaching and support, and social-emotional reinforcement to students in chronically low-performing elementary, middle, and high schools. There are plenty of ways you can make your mark. You can serve as a half-time member, completing 900 hours as a Student Support Specialist, you can serve as a quarter-time member, completing 450 hours as an Academic Support Specialist, or you can serve as minimum-time member as an After School Support Specialist, completing 300 hours.
Ameri Corps members are selected and placed based on previous experience, academic program, and applicable skills.

Ameri Corps members are embedded into a public elementary, middle school, high school, or youth serving organization to cultivate students’ social-emotional skills as a coach or mentor, in preparation for grade-advancement, college, and life. Specialists will be trained in mentoring strategies and collaborate with the site supervisor to enhance opportunities for academic and personal growth, increase school attendance and grades, decrease disciplinary incidents, and develop positive attitudes and behaviors to the 10 - 20 students served.
