Principle Responsibilities and Duties

• Assist the dentist during examinations and treatment of patients.
• Prepare patients for dental procedures; sterilize and disinfect instruments; set up instrument trays; prepare materials.
• Assist dentists during dental procedures.
• Takes and records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
• Pours and trims study casts; cleans and polishes removable appliances.
• Assist the dentist in the management of medical and dental emergencies.
• Prepare dental supply orders and anticipate the clinic’s needs.
• Maintain knowledge of dental office clinical equipment and its maintenance/cleaning schedules (autoclave, period-pro, low/high‑speed handpieces, etc.) and keep equipment service records.
• Provide post‑operative instructions prescribed by the dentist and record treatment information in patient records.
• Assist at the front desk with scanning, confirming and scheduling appointments; prepare bills; receive payments; complete insurance forms and maintain clerical records either manually or using a computer.
• Actively participate in staff meetings and work as part of a team.
• Perform tasks as requested by the Dental Practice Manager to ensure efficient clinic operation.

Additional Responsibilities (Certified Dental Assistant)

• Perform oral prophylaxis.
• Instruct patients in oral hygiene.
• Application of sealants and fluoride.
• Expose dental diagnostic X‑rays.
• Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations for mounting study casts.
• Apply matrix bands; etch and bond tooth surfaces; fabricate temporary restorations.
• Use a computer workstation, view a CRT monitor, and type on a keyboard.
• Work long and arduous hours as required from time to time.

Qualifications – Licenses & Certifications Required

• Massachusetts Dental Assistant (DA) License
