Cox Fleet By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.
Responsibilities- Perform licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned.
- Perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher.
- Continue to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. Maintain compliance with all company policies and achieve high level performance metrics.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections and follow-up repairs on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions, Clutches, Differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment as described above.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives with sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Collaborate with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work activities and time allocations effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using the TRAIT application on an iOS device.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently and manage daily schedule with a high level of productivity, staying within standard repair times where possible.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Maintain the company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or 5 years' experience in a related field.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Must be able to complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Current and valid DOT medical card or ability to obtain one; if submitted with four months or less remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
- Due to interstate operating authority, candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's license with ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

- ASE 608/609 certification*
- Understand the implications of new information for problem-solving and decision-making.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
