Duties As a TELECOMMUNICATIONS MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-2502-10, you will repair, maintain and install telecommunications equipment and lines. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
* Install complicated equipment such as key and single line telephone systems (to include features such as visual and audio signaling, intercommunications, hold, exclusion), private branch automatic exchanges (PBAX), special tape recorder equipment, executive loudspeaker and amplifier conference telephones, fire and special alarm circuits, secretarial answering turrets, and cordless switchboards.
* Install and test office automation systems and remote terminal equipment to include telephone lines, interior network cables, communications boards, controllers, printers, disk drives, modems and other peripheral devices.
* Install analog and digital telephone instruments and equipment such as ringers, cords, plugs, jacks, transmitters, condenser induction coils, fuses and multiple switch keys.
* Prepare and submit requests for installation and/or relocation of electrical service as required.
* Survey proposed installation site to determine proper system layout and check for location and type of electrical service.
* Interpret work orders to determine tools, equipment, and materials required and coordinate actions with users, test board and/or repairman, and other installers.
* Replace equipment using electrician's tools, installer's test sets for line test, speed test, electronic tube tester and ohmmeter.
* Conduct transmission, foreign noise, cross talk and dial speed tests.
* Climb poles and install drop lines. Requirements Conditions of employment

* This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
* Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
* Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
* Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
* Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
* Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
* May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
* Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Qualifications AREAS OF CONSIDERATION:
The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:
* The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
* The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
* The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
* The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
* The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens. Military Grades:
Officer/Warrant Officer/Enlisted - May not exceed the rank of LTC. GENERAL EXPERIENCE :
Must possess experience or training which demonstrates a basic knowledge of telephone equipment, knowledge of the principles of electricity and electronics, and ability use test equipment, wiring diagrams, schematics and other specifications. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE : WG-10 Level
- Must possess specialized experience which includes running wire, installing molding, insulators, connectors and terminal boxes, and other protective and support items; experience in the use of complex test equipment such as hand test sets, volt-ohmmeters, tone testers, etc.; experience in reading and understanding layout sheets, wiring diagrams, schematics, building plans, etc. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional;
philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
