Public Safety Officer

Overview

The Public Safety Officer assists the Sheriff's Department and Bailiffs to help maintain the safety and security of all personnel, visitors, on Public Building Commission property. This includes patrolling facilities, monitoring surveillance and access systems, responding to incidents and emergencies, and enforcing building regulations. Officers provide assistance to the public and coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.

• Patrol facility grounds, buildings, and parking areas to maintain a secure environment
• Monitor surveillance cameras, access control systems, and alarms
• Respond to incidents, disturbances, and emergency situations promptly and professionally
• Control access to restricted areas and verify credentials
• Prepare accurate and detailed incident and shift reports
• Assist staff, visitors, and contractors with directions, escorts, and emergency needs
• Conduct safety inspections and support emergency evacuation procedures
• Enforce facility policies and maintain a professional, courteous presence at all times

• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous experience in public safety, security, law enforcement, or military preferred
• Valid security or law enforcement certification (if applicable)
• Must pass a criminal background check and pre-employment screening
• CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Strong communication and observation skills
• Basic computer proficiency for reports and security system use
• Physical ability to walk or stand for long periods and respond quickly to emergencies

• Work performed both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions
• Physically active position involving walking, standing, and occasional lifting
• Shift-based work schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
