Compensation

$32.00/hour plus benefits. Note: The hourly rate includes a mandatory 4.5% retirement contribution to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

Qualifications
  • RN or BSN with current Illinois license in good standing.
  • Knowledge of the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Knowledge of Bloodborne Pathogen Policy and Procedures.
  • Ability to perform multiple technical tasks and upgrade skills as needed, including safety practices, first aid, emergency assessment, hazardous materials handling, equipment operation, and record keeping.
  • Flexible hours to meet various school schedules.
  • Skills in adapting to changing priorities, working independently, multi-tasking, communicating effectively, maintaining confidentiality, and working as part of a team.
  • Recent nursing experience preferred.
  • Experience with gastrostomy-tube feedings, tracheostomy care, seizure disorder care, and medication administration preferred.
General Description

The school nurse provides health care using prudent nursing judgment under the direction of the Certified School Nurse and District Health Services Director, focusing on students within specific district programs such as ISP/SKILLS/STARS. Responsibilities include direct nursing services like gastrostomy-tube feedings, tracheostomy care, seizure management, and medication administration.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing services, including medication administration, first aid, and emergency response, following professional standards and district policies.
  • Document and report student injuries and illnesses accurately and timely.
  • Maintain detailed electronic logs of health incidents and communicate with families to promote student health and wellness.
  • Follow Illinois Department of Public Health regulations on communicable diseases, immunizations, and health screenings.
  • Administer medications and educate students on their proper use.
  • Manage student health records and ensure compliance with health regulations.
  • Coordinate vision and hearing screenings and follow-up procedures.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams, providing health history and assessment data.
  • Assist with health program planning and provide health counseling to staff, students, and parents.
  • Maintain a clean, organized health environment and order supplies as needed.
  • Follow OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen standards and inform staff of health concerns.
  • Report any unusual health issues to school administration.
  • Perform additional health or related duties as assigned.
