Registered Nurse

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse will work on a Stepdown/PCU unit, providing care to patients requiring telemetry monitoring and specialized nursing interventions. The role involves a 3x12 night shift schedule, with the possibility of 4x12 shifts. Responsibilities include cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and managing patients with various cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, neurological, orthopedic, plastic surgery, and respiratory conditions.

Responsibilities:

- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring on the unit
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Post Cardiac Angiogram care
- Post MI care
- Pre/Post Cardiac Cath care
- Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery care
- Sheath Removal and TR Band application
- Feeding tube care and management
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis Management
- Care for patients with Renal failure
- Accessing Ports, Arterial line management, Blood Product Administration
- Central line care/management, Phlebotomy, Peripheral Line Care/Management, PICC line management, Starting IVs
- Heparin Protocols
- Manage Cardiac drips (no titration) and Vasoactive drips (no titration)
- PCA administration
- Procedural Sedation Administration
- Craniotomy, CVA, Pre/Post neurosurgery, Spinal cord injury, Traumatic Brain injury care
- Ortho Trauma care
- Peripheral nerve block catheters management
- Total Joint Replacements care
- Skin grafts and Surgical drains management
- Care of Ventilated Patient, Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac, External CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Interpretation of ABGs, Nasal Cannula, Oxygen face masks, Portable Oxygen tank, Non-invasive airway management, Tracheostomy Management
- Isolation Precautions and Wound Care/Wound Vac application

Required Skills &

Certifications:

- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Illinois
- BLS certification
- NIH certification
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, or PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown

- Experience with Cardiac Monitoring and Emergency response

- Experience with Cardiovascular, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary/Renal, IV therapy/Phlebotomy, Medication, Neurological/Psychiatric, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, and Respiratory cases
- Professional skills in Isolation Precautions and Wound Care/Wound Vac

Preferred Skills &

Certifications:

- ACLS certification
- Cerner experience
- Teaching hospital experience
- Level I Trauma Experience

Special Considerations:

- Will work every other weekend
- Will float as needed within scope of practice
- May be called off up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without pay
- On-call shifts count as called-off shifts
