Registered Nurse

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the IMC/Stepdown/PCU will provide skilled nursing care to patients, working 3x12 or 4x12 day shifts ). The role involves telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and providing care for patients with various conditions, including cardiac, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, neurological, orthopedic, plastic surgery, and respiratory issues. The RN will float as needed within their scope of practice to meet facility needs.

Responsibilities:

- Provide direct patient care, including medication administration and treatment planning.
- Perform telemetry monitoring and manage dysrhythmias.
- Care for patients with cardiac conditions, including post-cardiac angiogram, post-MI, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR band management.
- Manage patients with gastrointestinal issues, including feeding tube care.
- Provide care for patients with genitourinary/renal conditions, including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure.
- Perform IV therapy and phlebotomy, including accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs.
- Manage medications, including heparin protocols and cardiac/vasoactive drips (no titration).
- Care for patients with neurological conditions, including craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury.
- Provide care for patients with orthopedic conditions, including ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacements.
- Care for patients with plastic surgery needs, including skin grafts and surgical drains.
- Manage patients with respiratory issues, including care of ventilated patients, chest tubes, external CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management.
- Interpret ABGs and provide oxygen therapy.
- Implement isolation precautions and provide wound care.
- Float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Document patient care in Cerner.

Required Skills &

Certifications:

- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown.
- BLS and NIH certifications.

- Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.

- Experience with telemetry monitoring.

- Experience with post cardiac angiogram, post MI, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR Band.

- Experience with feeding tube care and management.

- Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure.

- Experience with accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, phlebotomy, peripheral Line Care/Management, PICC line management, and starting IVs.

- Experience with Heparin Protocols, Manage Cardiac drips- no titration, Manage Vasoactive drips-no titration, PCA, Procedural Sedation Administration.

- Experience with Craniotomy, CVA, Pre/Post neurosurgery, Spinal cord injury, Traumatic Brain injury.

- Experience with Ortho Trauma, Peripheral nerve block catheters, Total Joint Replacements.

- Experience with Skin grafts, Surgical drains.

- Experience with Care of Ventilated Patient, Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac, External CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), Interpretation of ABGs, Nasal Cannula, Oxygen face masks, Portable Oxygen tank, Non-invasive airway management, Tracheostomy Management.

- Experience with Isolation Precautions, Wound Care/Wound Vac.

Preferred Skills &

Certifications:

- ACLS certification.
- Cerner experience.
- Teaching hospital experience.
- Level I Trauma experience.

Special Considerations:

- Will work every other weekend.
- Will float as needed.
- RTO should ideally be no more than 5 days.
- Client may call-off up to 36 hours per thirteen week assignment without pay.

Scheduling:
- 3x12 or 4x12 day shifts ).
- Able to accommodate 4x12s if candidate prefers.
- Block scheduling is open for discussion with the manager.
