Travel RN - Med​/Surg

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Urology/Nephrology unit position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active IL RN license.

Job Details

• Acute care hospital setting - Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility with 562 staffed beds,

• Med/Surg Urology/Nephrology unit with a 25-bed unit and an average daily census of 23,

• Patient population includes genitourinary and renal cases such as renal failure and pre/post hemodialysis management,

• Night shift schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 hours (18:45-07:15),

• Every other weekend required,

• Floating to other Med/Surg units required as needed,

• Charge nurse responsibilities required on an as-needed basis,

• No on-call requirements,

• Charting via Cerner EMR,

• Free parking available with a permit obtained during orientation,

Job Requirements

• Active IL RN license currently in hand or actively in the application process,

• Current BLS certification required,

• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required,

• Med/Surg and telemetry work setting experience required,

• Cardiac monitoring skills required, including remote telemetry monitoring and use of Rapid Response Teams,

• Genitourinary/renal experience required, including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care,

• IV therapy skills required: blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs,

• Heparin administration experience required,

• Respiratory care experience required: chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and portable oxygen,

• Proficiency in isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac required,

• Cerner EMR experience required,

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome - candidates should demonstrate a solid RN foundation with 2+ years of Med/Surg experience,

• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction,

• RTO requests should ideally not exceed 5 days for the assignment - all scheduling requests must be submitted upfront,

• Any solid color scrubs are acceptable,

• Block scheduling will be accommodated when possible but is not guaranteed,

• 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration,

• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration,
