Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN with a background in telemetry and urology/nephrology to work night shifts in a Level I trauma center in Illinois.
Responsibilities- Position located in a hospital-based Medical Surgical unit specializing in urology and nephrology cases
- Care for patients with a daily census averaging 23 on a 25-bed unit
- Night shifts available as either 4x12 or 3x12 hours, 18:45–07:15
- Required to work every other weekend
- Charge responsibilities as needed during the assignment
- Floating within scope to other Medical Surgical units and affiliate hospitals may be required
- Cerner charting system is used and prior Cerner experience is required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Will provide care for complex genitourinary and renal failure patients, including pre/post hemodialysis
- May be assigned as Charge RN based on unit needs
- Work in a Magnet-designated, Level I trauma acute care hospital
- First-time travelers accepted if they have a solid foundation as an RN and requisite nursing experience
- Must not have been a permanent or PRN employee of Memorial within the past 12 months
- Scrub attire is any solid color
- Parking permit is required but provided at no cost
- Up to 5 days of non-holiday time off may be approved; requests for more require facility approval
- Candidates are expected to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
- Initial training modules are completed virtually on the first day and then annually
- Active Illinois RN license required (must be in hand or in application process to apply)
- Current BLS certification required; AHA or Red Cross only, RQI cards not accepted
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg nursing experience required, including telemetry
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, rapid response teams, and pre/post hemodialysis management is required
- Proficient in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC management, and starting IVs
- Experience with medication administration including Heparin is expected
- Skilled in managing respiratory cases with chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, non-invasive airway management, and oral suctioning
- Knowledge of isolation precautions, wound care, and wound vac use is required
- Cerner EMR experience is required
