Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Operating Room RN with Level I trauma and general OR experience for evening shifts and on-call requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Work in the Operating Room of an acute care Level I trauma center
  • 23 operating rooms handling multiple surgical specialties except cardiovascular
  • Evening shift schedule: 4x10 hour shifts from 13:00 to 22:00
  • Weekend coverage required once per month
  • On-call required approximately once per week
  • Rare floating within skill set or to nearby affiliate hospitals
  • Specialized procedures include bariatric, general, neuro, ortho, plastic, transplant, urology, and trauma cases
  • Patient cases may involve trauma, emergency management, and varied surgical populations
  • Cerner charting system used;
    Cerner experience preferred
  • Direct patient care in a high-acuity operating room environment, excluding cardiovascular surgeries
  • Participate in a multidisciplinary surgical team at a Magnet-recognized hospital
  • Expected to handle cases including emergency response and safety protocols
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility for this role
  • Parking is provided at no cost with required permit obtained during orientation
  • Must be able to work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays as determined by the facility
  • All time off requests require managerial approval, with automatic approval for up to 5 non-holiday days
  • Completion of online modules is required on the first day
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required at time of application or in process
  • Minimum of 3 years of Operating Room RN experience required
  • BLS certification required; CNOR certification preferred
  • Level I trauma and general OR experience required
  • Experience in bariatric, general surgery, neuro, orthopedic, plastic, transplant, urology, and trauma case types required
  • Experience with specialized OR equipment including electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources, and Hana tables
  • Professional skills needed: blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling, time outs, urinary bladder catheterization
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • First time travelers not accepted
  • Previous employees of the health system must have a 12 month gap before returning as a traveler
