The Occupational Therapist I is responsible for providing examinations, evaluations, therapy diagnosis, interventions, and prognosis in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. The role emphasizes managing a daily clinical caseload efficiently, including effective treatment, documentation, and billing practices. The Therapist I will participate in performance improvement and program development activities aligned with departmental goals.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:
- O.T. license in Illinois, or license pending with application on file with IDPFR and a letter of “Authorization to Work” from Illinois. License pending status is valid for up to 6 months per regulations.
- CPR Certification preferred.
- If applicable, valid Illinois driver’s license and acceptable driving record per MHS Fleet Safety Policy (5-year MVR required).
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Achieves & maintains 0-10 points on the Clinical Ladder Grid.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Effective communication with patients, families, and team members for assessment, intervention, and development.
- Ability to lift, support, and move patients weighing 50–100 lbs.
- Universal Precautions Category I.
- Perform patient assessments within a specific service area.
- Assign occupational therapy treatment diagnoses.
- Establish measurable, objective goals in the plan of care.
- Provide evidence-based interventions according to the plan of care.
- Assess treatment effectiveness and modify as needed.
- Plan for discharge.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members to maximize care benefits.
- Document patient care meeting quality and ethical billing standards.
- Organize workload and manage time efficiently.
- Maintain positive relationships with patients and referral sources.
- Demonstrate teamwork and assist colleagues as needed.
- Handle difficult or stressful situations appropriately.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and reach. Frequently lift, push, or pull 1-5 pounds.
Mental DemandsAbility to work under stress and adapt to changing conditions.
