Children’s Librarian

Full-Time Children’s Librarian (37.5 hours/week) at Ela Area Public Library District

The Ela Area Public Library District, located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago in the community of Lake Zurich, seeks a friendly and creative children’s librarian. We are looking for a colleague who enjoys being part of a collaborative, energetic team and interacting with kids and families at the busy Children’s Desk.

Primary Position Responsibilities:

• Ensures that library spaces for children are welcoming and accessible by providing enthusiastic customer service at the Children’s Desk.
• Performs reference and readers’ advisory services, helping young patrons and their families find age-appropriate books and resources.
• Shares in collection development duties within the Children’s Department.
• Plans and facilitates programs as interest, need and scheduling allows.
• Participates in the ongoing process of valuing equity, diversity, and inclusion by being open to and respecting the beliefs, identities, languages, varying abilities, and cultures of library patrons and staff.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science with coursework in children’s services.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, familiarity using an ILS, and ability to learn other software and cloud-based applications as related to the position
• Second language ability a plus

Position

Hours:

• Average of 37.5 hours per week, including one weekend per month
• $52,650 annually.
