Position: Telephone Operator I (U) (2980)

Description

Employees will answer incoming calls to the School of Medicine and all incoming calls to SIU Health Care, determine the person/area best able to handle the caller's needs and transfer the call to the appropriate number.

Examples of Duties
  • 65% Responds to all incoming and interoffice calls and transfer's callers to the appropriate party.
  • 15% Provide general information to callers concerning appropriate university offices, location of university events and other information as requested by caller.
  • 15% Accesses and maintains centralized database information and maintains updated call schedule to enable accurate and efficient routing of calls.
  • 3% Provides feedback to departments regarding accessibility of personnel.
  • 2% Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Credentials to be Verified by Placement Officer

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA's)

  • Ability to comprehend customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Condition of Employment

    Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, an out-of-state resident who is hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of their start date.
