Teacher Visually Impaired

Position: Teacher for the Visually Impaired
Conduct Functional Vision Assessments (FVA) and Learning Media Assessments (LMA)

-Provide direct instruction in areas such as braille literacy, assistive technology, visual efficiency skills, and ECC content areas.

-Adapt classroom materials into accessible formats (large print, high contrast, braille, tactile graphics)

-Consult with general education teachers to provide accessibility, accommodations and environmental modifications.

-Provide training for staff on student-specific needs in both gen ed. and special ed. settings on specific teaching strategies, equipment and assistive tech.

-Maintain clear documentation; progress reports and IEP-related paperwork in SEAS.

-Participate in IEP meetings, student planning and multidisciplinary collaboration. Springdale has common planning CTM time during Wednesdays to better facilitate this collaboration. SSAA also houses related service providers and school psychologists.

-Coordinate with Orientation and Mobility (O&M) specialists, low-vision professionals, and consult with eye doctors

-Interpret student eye doctor reports for the IEP team and report changes in student's vision during annual reviews (and as needed throughout the year)

-Travel between school sites

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education and Visual Impairment

-Valid state teaching license with endorsement/certification in Visual Impairments (TVI)

-Knowledge of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC)

-Proficiency in Braille (UEB), tactile graphics and adapted instruction materials

-Familiarity with updated assistive technology including screen readers (JAWS), magnification software (Zoomtext or Fusion, etc.) and braille devices

-Strong case management, collaboration and communication skills
