The Division of Social Services is filling vacancies for Family Services Specialist 1 (and an under filling for Family Services Specialist
2) located in Fallon. Family Services Specialists interview applicants and recipients of public assistance, explain eligibility, and elicit information to determine which public assistance programs are applicable.
Assist clients in completing applications and verify information by contacting landlords, employers, utility companies, and personal creditors to confirm citizenship, residency, household composition, earnings, and projected household expenses. Process this information to establish eligibility, compute income, evaluate other factors, and make determinations in accordance with time frames and program regulations.
This is the entry level in the series and provides progression to the journey level upon satisfactory completion of the training period, meeting minimum qualifications, and recommendation of the appointing authority.
Typing RequirementMust type a minimum of 35 words per minute accurately. A typing certificate issued within the last 12 months must accompany you at interview and verify your net typing speed of at least 35 wpm in a five‑minute test. The certificate can be obtained through a staffing agency or for free from any Nevada Job Connect office. No online typing test will be accepted.
Qualifications- Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in a clerical/administrative program support role that included customer relations; obtaining, verifying, and evaluating information; organizing and prioritizing work to meet timelines and standards; applying and explaining program rules, regulations, policies and procedures; and performing mathematical computations.
- One year of experience as an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada State service.
- Two years of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service.
- Sixty semester credits from an accredited college or university in general studies, business administration, social science, or human services and one year of experience as described above.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

- Operate computers and peripheral equipment to store, record and retrieve information.
- Establish and maintain accurate records.

- Interact effectively with persons from varying social, economic and cultural backgrounds.
Making accurate mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
