NOTE:
This is a hybrid position that is worked onsite 3 days a week.
Position Overview
The Senior Power BI Architect will serve as the subject‑matter expert for enterprise‑level Power BI architecture, governance, performance optimization, and secure data delivery. This role is responsible for defining and enforcing best practices, designing scalable analytics solutions, guiding development teams, and ensuring Power BI deployments follow robust security and compliance standards.
The ideal candidate is both a hands‑on architect and a mentor—able to translate business needs into modern BI architecture while elevating the organization's Power BI maturity and capability.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise‑grade Power BI solutions including semantic models, datasets, and scalable workspace architectures.
- Develop guidelines for Lakehouse/Warehouse integration
, Direct Lake
, Direct Query
, and Import mode usage. - Define standards for model optimization, data model design, naming conventions, and development patterns.
- Architect reusable components and templates to accelerate delivery and ensure consistency.
- Establish and maintain enterprise Power BI governance frameworks, including:
- Workspace strategy and taxonomy
- Dataset certification standards
- Version control and Dev Ops processes
- Development lifecycle (ALM) best practices
- Lead the BI governance committee or CoE to align business units and technical teams.
- Document and evangelize best practices through playbooks, guidelines, and training.
- Build and maintain automation for CI/CD pipelines using:
- Fabric/Power BI Deployment Pipelines
- Azure Dev Ops or Git Hub Actions
- Ensure structured dev > test > prod release management with proper approvals and testing.
- Standardize deployment patterns for datasets, semantic models, and reports.
- Oversee version control practices and promote Git‑enabled development.
- Design and implement Power BI security and compliance strategies including:
- Row‑Level Security (RLS)
- Object‑Level Security (OLS)
- Sensitivity labels and data loss prevention
- Access management policies aligned with enterprise IAM
- Ensure adherence to corporate, regulatory, and data privacy standards.
- Perform periodic audits of workspace access, dataset permissions, and publishing practices.
- Establish monitoring processes for:
- Dataset refresh performance
- Gateway health
- Query performance and DAX efficiency
- Cost optimization (capacity management)
- Conduct performance tuning and provide guidance to development teams.
- Implement usage analytics dashboards to track adoption and optimize capacity.
- Guide development teams on design patterns, data modeling practices, visualization standards, and DAX techniques.
- Conduct code reviews, architectural reviews, and solution design walkthroughs.
- Deliver training sessions and support building Power BI skills across business units.
- Partner with data engineers, cloud architects, security teams, and business stakeholders to deliver aligned solutions.
- Define the Power BI and Microsoft Fabric roadmap for the organization.
- Evaluate new features, assess enterprise impact, and drive adoption strategy.
- Provide guidance on tool selection, licensing, and capacity planning.
- 7+ years of experience with Power BI, including enterprise semantic model development.
- Strong expertise in DAX, data modeling, and M/Power Query.
- Deep understanding of Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, and modern data architecture.
- Hands‑on experience with Power BI Deployment Pipelines and Azure Dev Ops/Git integration.
- Knowledge of enterprise security policies, governance, and compliance frameworks.
