Description
LOCATION:
1699 Research Forest Drive, Suite 150 The Woodlands, TX 77380. Some travel required to Conroe location with doctor as needed.
Contributes to the organization by working closely with the ophthalmologist to perform basic, advance, and complex preliminary tests and measurements of the eyes. The OA generally meets with the patient before the Ophthalmologist to obtain medical history and prepare the patient for the examination.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Responsible for properly stocking, preparing, and maintaining the cleanliness of exam rooms during clinic.
- Reviews patient chart for accuracy of information.
- Prepare patients for physician's exam. Perform tests based on the specific reasons for the visit and physician's preference.
- Assists with in-office procedures.
- Prepare and ensure all consent forms are complete and accurate prior to in-office procedures. Prepares and cleans room after procedure.
- Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
- May act as scribe to assist physicians with entering exam information into electronic record. Order diagnostic tests electronically and submit prescription refills approved by physician.
- Assists with preparing letters to patients and referring physicians.
- Assists with diagnostic testing.
- Follow‑up on diagnostic tests when directed by physician.
- Schedule, reschedule, and cancel appointments.
- Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants.
- Must meet and adhere to health policies and procedures, uphold the highest ethical principles and patient confidentiality. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
- Other duties as assigned based on business operational needs.

COMPETENCIES
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred. - Certifications & Licenses:
Basic Life Support (BLS). If not BLS certified at time of employment, must be obtained within 6 months of hire date. Uncertified Ophthalmic Assistants must obtain JCAHPO (COA, COT, or COMT) certification within 1 year of employment. - Experience:
- 1-2 years of experience in a medical or healthcare setting.
- Strong desire to learn and grow within a clinical environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well in a fast‑paced, patient‑focused setting.
- Reliable, punctual, and detail‑oriented.
