Primary Purpose:
To assist students in mastery of academic curriculum in a tutorial setting.

Education / Certification:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred
  • Texas Teaching Certificate is preferred
  • Special Knowledge / Skills:
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
  • General Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience / Other Requirements:
  • Some experience working with students is preferred.
  • Fingerprinting is required.
  • Attend substitute teacher orientation.
  • Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Tutor and work with individual students or groups in assigned subject(s).
  • Work with classroom teacher and/or campus administration to address areas of weakness as identified from previous STAAR/EOC testing, benchmark classroom exams, and other formative and summative measures.
  • Maintain an orderly work area.
  • Keep records of student progress as needed, such as behavior, grades, attendance.
  • Maintain strict student confidentiality.
  • Keep supervisor informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Communicate with teachers regarding students' academic progress and/or needs as per request of supervisor.
  • Provide a positive, calm, and consistent learning environment for students.
  • Communicate with students in a positive and encouraging way.
  • Help keep administrative records and help prepare required reports, including accurate records of time worked (timesheets).
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with campus staff.
  • Be a positive role model for students.
  • Support mission of school district.
