The primary responsibilities of this position include driving and operating a Knuckle Boom truck and crane, picking up yard waste and bulk, solid refuse and debris (i.e. discarded furniture, appliances, etc.) He or she will plan and schedule pick-ups of waste according to requests for service and strategically planned routes. This is a semi-skilled, full-time non-exempt position under the direct supervision of the Director of Public Works.

- Perform routine, preventative maintenance to knuckle boom truck and other equipment.
- Communicate with management, co-workers and the general public to ensure safe and speedy service.
- Safely and effectively drives and operates a knuckle boom truck to pick up curbside residential waste.
- Make legible and correct entries in logs, on charts, and records both manually and by the computer keyboard.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of City streets and neighborhoods.
- Knowledge of applicable traffic laws.
- Ability to communicate well with citizens.
- Ability to operate knuckle boom truck.
- Ability to work independently and without close supervision.
- Ability to keep truck and associated equipment in clean and good working order.
Employees in this position must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and be able to operate hand controls.
ENVIROMENTAL REQUIREMENTSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- High School Diploma.
- CDL B is required.
