This is a skilled, full-time non-exempt position under the direct supervision of the Public Works Director. This employee performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the repair, maintenance and installation of asphalt and concrete for city streets, sidewalks, and right of way. He or she will supervise a crew of team members dedicated to such work, assigning projects and tracking their completion.

- Prioritize projects, assign work tasks to crew members, procure required materials, file work orders and maintain written or electronic records of projects.
- Instruct employees in proper work methods and standards; monitor crew work quality; ensure adherence to time schedules and safe work practices, provide performance feedback and input into performance reviews.
- Resurfaces, repairs or patches roadways with hot asphalt or cold patch
- Repairs sidewalks and curbs.
- Paints traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs.
- Removes ice and snow from public roadways, sidewalks, and City parking lots
- Mows grass and trim shrubs, trees, etc.
- Remove litter and debris from roadways curbs, shoulders, medians, sidewalks, and other City rights-of-way.
- Answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action such as placing barricades, removing fallen trees and limbs, emergency patching of streets, etc.
Participates in stand-by and on-call work as required.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under sometimes unfavorable conditions.
- Ability to read and write for successful job performance.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
- Knowledge of the laws and regulations related to supervision.
- Advanced skill in the operation of equipment, tools, and instruments used for assigned work areas.
- Intermediate skill in the operation of computers and related equipment.
- Ability to assign and supervise the work of others, provide instruction, lead a small crew and inspire confidence.
- Ability to read and interpret documents and construction drawings.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- CDL Drivers’ License required.
- 2 years of experience with construction and asphalt repair required.
- Flagging certification within 1 year required.
