Overview
The City of Spring Hill is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Maintenance Worker 2 within the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for operating equipment and performing skilled construction and maintenance work. This is a full-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Construction Superintendent.
Responsibilities- Operates jackhammers, mowers, brush chippers, pipe saws, asphalt/concrete saws, and other small equipment.
- Works with and assists crews in digging ditches and trenches, hoisting material, tools, and equipment, and laying pipes.
- Assists with installing and maintaining traffic control devices.
- Performs all duties in accordance with applicable safety and security standards.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment; reports defects and repairs needed to supervisor; cleans equipment.
- Assists with installing and maintaining traffic control devices.
- Perform scheduled stormwater inspections/repairs on jobsites
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of standard construction equipment.
- Knowledge of hazards associated with equipment operation and applicable safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of traffic laws and ordinances governing equipment operation.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions used in laboring work.
- Ability to quickly and accurately adjust machine or vehicle controls.
- Ability to understand and follow oral instructions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Tennessee Driver’s License.
- Stormwater Level 1 Certification required, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire.
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, Emergency Management or City Administration. Such assignments may be before, during or after an emergency/disaster.
Guaranteed 40 hours Monday through Saturday. Some Saturdays could be required due to weather.
