Assistant in Training

Company: The Buckle, Inc.

Summary: The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager positions share a primary responsibility of fulfilling Buckle’s mission: "to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests." AITs and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks (cashiering, merchandise display, register procedures, and routine facility cleaning). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, provide leadership, and train and motivate teammates.

The Assistant Manager role builds on the AIT role and includes additional high‑level duties specific to that position.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $19–$24 per hour (base rate plus 3% commission on sales). Final offers are based on skill set, experience, location and other factors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions about the store and merchandise, recommend and locate items, and create a wardrobe experience.
  • Share product knowledge and sales education with teammates.
  • Maintain awareness of current sales, promotions, payment policies and security practices.
  • Achieve personal sales goals and contribute to team sales performance.
  • Support guest service across front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area.
  • Execute sales presentation guide and collaborate with teammates to improve presentations.
  • Use store tools to expand guest selection and maintain guest relationships.
  • Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness.
  • Plan sales goals with the Store Manager and demonstrate ownership of store sales performance.
Team Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Identify recruiting opportunities and develop relationships with potential teammates.
  • Coach new teammates to meet Buckle’s accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention and sales presentation standards.
  • Maintain a positive floor culture and demonstrate personal dress code.
  • Participate in daily setup, training, and review sessions while using the performance tracker.
  • Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks and inspire results in denim showmanship and fit cards.
  • Self‑educate on company tools and share knowledge with teammates.
  • Support recruitment and compensation discussions with teammates.
Visual Merchandise Management
  • Own and influence product zones, delegate and review zones with teammates.
  • Maintain visual standards and use the visual checklist.
  • Identify merchandising opportunities and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure the sales floor is consistently sized and new freight is displayed properly.
  • Use the performance tracker to improve visual results.
Operations
  • Work a flexible schedule (mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • Complete opening and closing checklists and use the planner.
  • Identify security risks and follow loss prevention guidelines.
  • Execute point‑of‑sale procedures and handle corporate calls.
  • Manage policies (payments, returns, exchanges, loss prevention).
  • Maintain a clean, organized store and provide feedback to management.
  • Handle emergencies in the Store Manager’s absence.
Supervisory and Leadership
  • Give and receive feedback from peers and management.
  • Support leadership and promote personal and store growth.
  • Conduct daily interviews and overcome objections.
  • Travel to cover other stores when needed.
  • Lead by example, maintain professionalism and positivity, and handle schedule changes professionally.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Assists the Store Manager in supervising staff.
